Annual meeting of the European Meteorological Society (EMS)
Our group was represented by two talks at the EMS 2024. We look back to an intensive week in Barcelona with many new impressions, ideas and collaborations. Here you find the abstracts of our presentations:
1) Duc Nguyen et al: "Comparison of wind profiles in the operational ICON-D2 analysis with Doppler wind lidar observations in complex topography from the Swabian MOSES 2023 campaign", https://doi.org/10.5194/ems2024-486
2) Julia Thomas et al: "A campaign re-analysis for 'Swabian MOSES 2023': how do high-resolution observations change the analysis of a convective-scale data assimilation system?", https://doi.org/10.5194/ems2024-853
We thank all our collaborators and look forward to the next conference.
IMKTRO News: How can a warmer North Atlantic affect the weather in Western Europe?
In the last two years, sea surface temperatures in the North Atlantic have been significantly higher than in previous years. Using a case study from February 2019, we investigate how this can affect the weather situation in Europe. A summary of this study is available in IMKTRO News(https://www.imk-tro.kit.edu/12807.php).
IDEA-S4S doctoral student workshop
On 19 and 20 June, the PhD students of IDEA-S4S met at the DWD for a self-organized workshop. The first day was dedicated to project presentations and happily many DWD staff attended the sessions on site or online! On the second day, there were many inspiring talks from DWD and IDEA-S4S experts on topics such as extreme weather forecasting, verification, data assimilation, remote sensing and the challenges for NWP in complex terrain. We have grown together as a group and look forward to seeing you again at the network's annual meeting in November!
