- Predictability of mid-latitude weather phenomena, especially heat waves over Europe
- Heat waves in a future climate: Role of dynamical versus thermodynamic contributions
- Mid-latitude atmospheric dynamics with a focus on blocking
- Tropical meteorology, in particular West African monsoon dynamics
